Can you use a D ring receiver mount as a hi lift lift point? Like this. Hi lift idea-image-3493799516.jpg

Now that I visualize the Jeep in the air, not a good idea. But what about this "Hi-lift shackle"

I wouldn't trust it. Especially offroad/on trails, could slip with minimal body roll or shifting
Even though I'm assuming that shackle was made for that purpose, I still don't think I would trust it

I have seen people do it and i wouldn't myself. Some off road bumpers like jcr offroad have slots cut in the bumper for the high lifts jaw to slide in and lift the jeep.

I guess that the statement that everything is relative would be my take. I use shackles for are rated for 9500 lbs so lifting the front driver's side of a 4000 lb Cherokee will not be a problem strength wise, the next thing to think about is the terrain wouldn't want to try the high-lift on a shackle on steep ground.

Can you do it, yes. Have I done it, yes. Do I like doing it, no. But, if you're in a situation where you have to use a hi lift, I would use a shackle. I've lifted on my rear bumper without using a shackle and had the hi lift slide to the side and the whole vehicle fell. Once I started using the shackle, it no longer wanted to slide off the bumper. I tend not to use my hi lift anymore because it is very unstable most of the time no matter what/how you use it.

i do it all the time. never had an issue.
my warn front bumper is angled, so the high lift won't work under it so using the d shackle is the perfect solution.
it's safer than under most bumpers where the jeep can slide sideways.

i have used it many times with my shackle receiver in my hitch to lift the whole jeep up and push it over to get it out of a rut.

a high lift is a very useful tool, as long as you know it and respect it.

Depending on where I am, I sometime use my rock sliders instead of the bumper as a jacking point for the high lift. I also strap up the axle so I don't have to lift the body any higher than needed to change the tire.

I second this. I lifted off my rear bumper (not using shackle,) and the jeep slipped a bit, and I busted a taillight. If you need to jack up from the bumper, use the shackle. I also agree that hi lifts are awfully unstable, and I don't use mine too often.

I would use one of these while doing that:

There are specific tools made for Hi-Lift jacks to do about every job "Safely" I have and have used about all of them for one job or another from lifting/winching to straightening and pulling sheet metal.

They are the one tool I will not leave home without being it is the only way I can change a tire on mine, just use a rocker slider for that and the large base most of the time. Shame I don't have some photos in use but usually to busy to take any at the time
