Default Hi Lift or Bottle Jack?

I recently put a 4.5 inch lift with 33s. And trying to decide if I need to purchase a hi lift or bottle jack.

well you should have a stock bottle jack that came with the jeep right?
personaly i hate highlift jacks they work but can be extremely unsafe. almost got killed by my dads two weeks ago.

Unfortunately it didn't come with one. Yeah I've been reading that they aren't that safe. So would you recommend a bottle jack rather than a high lift?

I always just use a standard hydraulic jack with a 4x4 wood block. Does the trick, just remember to use jack stands. Also make sure the block isnt gonna kick out on you while its going up.

Depends on what and where youre gonne use it. I prefer to have both not gonna use a bottle jack to pull yourself out of a tight spot or a hundred other things it can be handy for, but if you just need to change a tire at the Mall or side of the highway bottle jack wins. Watched a guy try to get his Toyota high enough to reset a bead on the trail last weekend it was pure comedy, someone got out a high lift and 10 minutes and he was rolling again.

There is no substitute for a highlift jack.

get one, learn how to use it responsibly.

Thanks for all the input guys. I guess I'll be getting both. I'd rather have both of them and not need them, then need them and not have them.

Get a mini floor jack under a axle its safer.A high lift is good if you have off road bumpers and rock sliders to lift with.On a stock bumper i see a high lift messing up the bumper.

I have 3 Jacks, I have a 3 ton Hydraulic I use in my garage, A stock bottle neck with a piece of wood , and a Hi-Lift I keep under the back seat in the XJ.

I'll use the Hi-Lift only if I don't have enough clearance to get the bottle neck under the Jeep. Ive seen them kick out and screw people up bad

For soft ground you can get a wabbits foot http://www.wabfab.org/component/opti...roduct_id,909/ or hi lift brand off road foot its wider. On pavement your kinda screwed if use it wrong.

like caveman said, get a highlift, learn to use it properly and respect that if you don't use it correctly, that it can seriously injure you.
i've had my 60 inch highlift for 10 years, keep it on my roof rack mounts all year, keep it oiled and inspect it at least twice a year whether you use it or not.
it's when they're neglected and they don't work properly when they hurt someone.

as for where to lift from on your jeep, you need strong, properly mounted aftermarket bumpers with d-shackles and/or rock sliders.

i lift mine from the d-shackle.
here's an internet pic for example...
