Default Hi all, New here with a question or two.

Hey everyone. Im new here and pretty much new to Jeep's and have a few question's. My girl and I are looking at 2 jeep cherokee's one's a 96 2 door sport 4x4 with the 4.0L and the other is a 97 4 door 4x4 with the 4.0L engine. They want $1,995 for each. They are not body rotted and the interior has a few stain's here and there but nothing really bad. The 96' has 188,000 mile's on it and the 97' has 223,000 miles on it. How many Miles can you get out of a 4.0L before you have to start worrying about thing's breaking down and having to do a rebuild? And second are these two vehicle's too high priced for the miles? Any information you can give me about these car's would be greatly appriciated. Thank's everyone.

for the years and miles you can probably find then for about 500 less if you keep looking. If the bodies are in great shape and they still run strong...its a clse call at $2k. I have 190 on mine at its still going strong as is the case for the majority. High 200s to low 300s seem to be the average for mileage.

Aside from that. The 2 doors are harder to find, so if thats what you are looking for and its in good shape its a plus for that one.

The 97s are an odd year, they tend to have more electrical quirks than other years. This is because they changed the wiring harnesses a few times before settling on the one they kept for later years. If its a late 97 you should be fine.

Depending on where you live get underneath and check the floor boards for rust....they commonly rust through in the northern states.

Which ever you choose, try to knock them down a few hundred, and dont forget to check craigslist.

I stand corrected. The 4 door is a 98' not a 97'. Both jeep's are on the same car lot and im thinking if we bought both of them then they would be willing to do a little more "dealing" if you know what I mean. I live in N.E. Ohio so I will defenetly look under them before purchasing them. Ohio winters can be rough and that is one of the reason's I want both jeep's to be 4x4's. I appriciate the "head's up" on the wiring issues that these thing's had in 97'. Any more info would be appriciated.

HMMM 98's have the updated inteior which is pimp while 96 has the old basic, its up to you but i'd look for a 97+ cherokee, also like stated search craigslist all over you can find em with less miledge for the same price,i'd stay away from anyone that has more then 220kkk. Also check them over for rust as alot have the floorboards gone and you wouldnt even expect it.

i would rather have a four door then a two door but if you are buying both, that takes care of that issue.
