Default Help! Won't shift out of 4wd!

Ok so I just recently bought a 2000 cherokee sport and I know the transfer case was recently done it acted really tight like it didn't want to drop to 4lo,so I only got it to drop in 4hi until coming home today I got it to drop all the way to 4lo but now it won't come out of it and back to 2wd and the shifter is really loose! Please help I just got done sinking in a lot for a new cylinder head! Help is greatly appreciated!

Did you adjust the tcase linkage? It might need adusted or the rod is slipping because the nut is not tight enough.

Do you know the proper way to shift it?

Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. The suggestions in ITALICS are mine.

"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I let off the gas, throw the lever, and then tap the gas and let off.

4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".

To shift out of 4L, shift the transmission into neutral with the vehicle stopped, shift the transfer case lever to 2H, then to D if you have an automatic, or into first gear with a manual, and continue on.

Yeah I did shift it like that, it was having a hard time shifting to 4lo but it finally shifted on the way home, now it's stuck in 4wd and I crawled under and looked and the shifter rod is not connected at all to the shifter in the cab looks like it rusted off. Is this a easy fix? And how would I manually get it out of 4wd?

Move the final metal piece connected on the tcase with some channel locks.
