Hey y'all.
So, tax time is coming! I am blessed to be able to spend my refund this year on my Jeep addiction. Don't usually have the money to spend freely on my XJ, so i love tax time! Just not exactly sure which way i wanna go. So i seek the wisdom of the forum!
This is what i got. A 96 XJ DD that i want to turn into a mild but capable trail rig. Still want to take it on the highway so it won't get too wild.
PROS:
I rebuilt the 4.0 12K ago and it's running strong.
Trimmed fenders and nearly new 31X10.50s.
JCR stage 2 front and rear bumpers and D-rings.
Also just got my lift the other day(not installed yet). Went with the 4.5" Zone full pack kit with upgraded shocks. I'm very happy with the kit from the box. Looks to be very strong and well made stuff. Tho the rear is only a full 3" pack with shackles to go to 4.5" I kinda like that because i may find a set of 3" coil springs for the front for now and just run there for awhile. If i go to 4.5" i need a trac-bar and SYE. If i go to 4.5 i want 33s. If i have 33s i'll need a better rear axle... It's a can of worms!
CONS:
My AW4 is acting up. Slips badly in reverse. Gets me to and from work tho.
D35 rear axle.
It's my only vehicle at this time.
I WANT alot of things for it!
So... What should i do??? I wanna build it, but i'd like to have another ride while i'm working on it or if i break something once i'm trailworthy.
I should have around $3K with my refund and some savings.
OPTION 1: Take the $3K and buy a nice dependable ZJ another XJ or MJ if i can find one. Work on my 96 as funds allow as i have been. I will get there eventually! Go to 3" and stay on 31s for awhile. Have a ride if my trans goes.
OPTION 2: Find a decent $1500 Jeep that will get me to and from work. Take the other money and buy a JY trans, SYE and trac-bar for my 96. Go to 4.5" but stay on 31s until funds appear for D44 rear and 33s.
OPTION 3: Put $1500 down on a very nice ZJ or maybe WJ and do the same as option 2 to my 96. Will take longer to get there with $300 or so monthly car payments. Hate car payments!
OPTION 4: Spend the $3K on my 96 and get it a good ways towards done (it'll never be done)! Will have to bum rides if i have it torn apart tho or break on the trail. Really think i should get another Jeep to drive.
So what do you think? I welcome any suggestions and advise. Maybe there is another option i'm missing?
Thank you for your time and consideration!
Heres my 96.
