usually on-time maintenance such as oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, cleaning injectors, and the o2 sensor as well as other things like keep the rpms below 2k, don't slam on the brakes, try not to get super swamper tires due to the big lugs on the tread or retreads due to heavy weight.

^^what He said, If you are looking for good gas mileage driving a big heavy brick with lots of rotating mass is probably counterproductive. Buy a geo metro or some other S***box

You could probably get better gas mileage hauling your Jeep with a nice diesel truck, than driving the Jeep itself.

Cut holes in the floor and use your legs to get the Jeep moving from a stop by pushing on the ground Flintstones Style. If youre lucky the floor will be half rusted out already.

Get a high flow muffler.... I got a super 44 for my 93 GC...5.2 V8.... went from 14mpg to 19 mpg on the freeway.

around town, maybe 1mpg better.

2 mpg better if I'm not stomping the gas just to hear the exhaust.

Correct tire pressure, don't floor it when the light turns green, & drive the speed limit.

From my experience, you can do everything under the sun (I'm talking gears, completely redo the exhaust, injectors, replace every fluid, filter and sensor, run higher PSI, blah blah blah) and you still won't see a huge improvement. I've done everything short of replacing my engine and went from 10 MPGs to 13.5 MPGs.

Moral of the story, get a second car as a daily driver and don't drive your XJ everywhere you go

I didn't know you we're aloud to mention gas mileage in a jeep forum. If it worries you that much , you need to buy a car. You could strip it down to stock , wack a set of skinny road tyres then drive like my mother. Not a jeep thing at all.

i get around 18mpg in the city with my jeep, when it gets around 17 i put in zmax at the next oil change.

with that said i am a cautious drive and always have been. i don't take it anywhere but the road its really my main vehicle for myself and work.

but i like my jeep.

Best way to get better gas mileage is to use the search feature and search what other people have already posted dozens of times so as not to waste space. Deal with it, you drive a jeep. I get only 200-220 miles with a full tank for city and highway traffic. I usually fill up when its at 1/8th of a tank line but I don't always let it get that low
