Unless there is so much oil it's a fire hazard, pretty much just leave it alone. Very little in the way of electrical under the hood on a Jeep are weather, let alone waterproof. If you spray it down at the car wash or on the trail, very high likelyhood you'll be walking home.
I'll second this! I just used my garden hose and soapy water to wash under the hood of my '95 that I bought last week...I had to let it dry out for at least an hour before it'd start...AFTER hitting it with my Stihl backpack leaf blower. I won't be washing under the hood again anytime soon!
