Retreads have been around since WWII and some are good while others have issues like tread seperation. Treadright has a good rep among 4X4 owners. I can't personally vouch for them but they do seem to be a good value for the dollar if their rep is correct.

There is plenty of information out there about re-treads in the 4x4 community. Yes treadwright.com is a great company to purchase from and produces a great re-tread product. I ran a set of their MT re-treads for over a year and have no gripes about them. The pattern looked exactly like a Maxxis Mudder tire.

yeah, they are available to the public. i buy them from a local tire store. the guy that owns the store retreads them himself. i live in NC.
