Hi So I'm very new to this and I'm looking to buy my first jeep. I'm hoping for some input from people who know more than me.
The description of the ad: 95 xj with 4in skyjacker lift, 4.10 gear ratios, new ball joints, most of the engine gaskets were replaced,
drive shaft, brand new 31 in mud tires, 2 in spacers, roof rack and light bar, bull bar and mean steel bumpers,
and a whole lot more. Looking for something fun to play with obo lemme know what you got.
This is a project jeep the interior has not been worked on yet so there's that.
The asking price is 1,800. He said mechanically the only thing is the front pinion bearing is getting loud.
I'm okay with an interior project, I'm getting pictures of that soon.
I'm not looking to spend much money to get into it which is why I'm not looking at anything more expensive but I want to know if this sounds like a good deal or not.
Thank you for any input!
So you are ready to do a front axle swap? It will take a swap or a rebuild to correct a pinion bearing. Both are pretty big jobs in either physical effort or money or both.
That is about half what I paid, so I would do it as not a daily driver, but I'm not afraid of that front end work. YMMV.
Like Veeb said!
Also if this is to be a driver, there is no catalytic converter either.
Other notes would be those wheel flares are.............................. to be nice, covering more rust.
"This is a project Jeep". Sure is. Some project vehicles can be fun, and you cant wait to get started. Fun for a little while. But some are nothing but trouble. So much so that you light it on fire and push it over a cliff. Thing is you wont know which one it is until you bring it home.
X2 on those flares... I mean to each their own but.... just wow....
In all seriousness though... I'd be a little leery of an example that the PO seemed to be more concerned with cosmetic things than the actual mechanical condition of it. The price might seem appealing... but if it were me, I wouldn't hand over the cash unless I knew the work it needed was something I could do on my own without having to through fist fulls of loot into it just to have it road-worthy.
There are still a number of good examples out there... you might pass on this one. There are projects, then there are worthless money pits that you'd punch yourself in the face for buying... and like said above... want to push it off the nearest cliff.... on fire.
