So my Jeep's headlights will not come on. Normally I can shake the switch and they turn on. But as of yesterday they would not go on at all.
My dad has been trying to fix them and nothing is working!
He got new parts but not a new switch. He said when he got the headlights to work the taillights stopped working. I was wondering if anyone had this problem before, like is it the switch, or something else. I really need my car so please respond with anything helpful!!

 

Uh, I'd go with "Yes" on is it the switch... what do you mean he got "new parts"?

 

He got the new switch and put it on but it didn't come with the ****. Sorry that's what I meant.

Do the rear tail lights turn on at all? IE when you have the headlights on or when you have your foot on the brake pedal?

 

They do only when the switch is wiggled a bit but the headlights only work when the tail lights don't and vise versa.

 

ok... when you remove the connector from the headlight switch.. the prong that goes to b1.. should be the "hot at all times" wire from the battery.. the prong marked H should be the wire that supplies power to the headlights and tail lights.. while b2 should be the connection to your parking lights... have your dad bypass the switch and do some jumping to see if he can get them all the come on at the same time...

you could either have a faulty switch or a fauly connector

if he has a multi-meter.. he could test the switch for continuity between the hot wire.. and the different prongs to see if he is getting a good crisp connection in the switch

a power probe would be nice to send power to all the different wires to test that way as well
