To buy or not to buy?
Hey everyone I am new to this forum. Im a member over at wranglerforum.com but any how I am looking to purchase a 2000 jeep cherokee sport. My dealership was planning on wholesaleing but I may revamp her. She has the inline six with the automatic tranny. I put the jeep up on the lift today and head gasket, rear main seal, oil pan, water pump, powersteering and possibly even the transfer case were all leaking. The engine has 127,000 miles on her. Interior is in good shape, exterior has a few dings and dents. We bought the jeep off a customer for $400 and I would probably buy it for around $600. What do you guys think? I could easily repair any of the above mentioned problems in my own garage. Thanks guys!

2000 is known for cracking heads.

Wow, only gave $400 for a 2000 with 127,000 mi., XJ's must have the absolute worst resale value of any vehicle on Earth.
Odd that it's cousin the Wrangler has one of the best resale values of any vehicle.

Def try to fix it up. I've seen dealerships make claims that a car is bad, buy it for under a thousand and resell for triple the amount. Its pretty sad

There is virtually no rust on the vehicle. Frame was oddly clean. Jeep also comes with an aftermarket head unit and speakers. I'll probably pull the trigger on Thursday

I always figure a solid unibody that runs is worth up to $1000 in most any condition. If it's clean otherwise I'd jump on it, replace the head/gaskets, other leaks, ect. If nothing else for a couple hundred bucks and a decent cleaning you could turn around and resell it for twice what you have in it.
I wouldn't pay any more than the dealership paid for it either, we don't at my dealership. They're just going to turn around and sell it to a wholesaler or auction place anyway.

Bought the jeep for $600! Ive been driving it everywhere and just leaving my truck parked in the driveway. Soon to come mods are 4.5inch lift 33x10.5x?, bedliner paint job, roof rack, and possibly stinger bumper. Thanks for everyones input! Also going to look into replacing the heads, right now they engine seems to be running in perfect shape. Just the couple oil leaks and it should be good.
