Default Heater resistor?

I replaced the resistor last winter (if Im remembering correctly), and just last week replaced the vacuum line as it had gone into default (defrost). It now works on the floor, etc, but for the most part only blows on 3 and 4. The thing is, occasionally it will blow on 1 and 2 (low heat). But almsot always just 3 and 4, so Im wondering, could that still be the resistor if it works on more than just 4? Its a 97 country...thanks...

The resistor did have a fried pin, but the connector end of the harness going into the resistor was melted. I cannot find a harness ANYWHERE! so junk yards, nowhere. Got one on order but will be a week. I am wondering if there is a way I can rig it up the way it is. It is melted, but will still plug into the resistor. Will my new resistor get damaged if I use it until the new harness comes? Or can I just hard wire it in there with some elec tape? I live in MN so its already cold enough for needing heat, at least when my daughter is in the car.

Thanks

you need to either fix the harness by making your own, or find one somewhere. the melted harness is bad and will blow the resistor again and could possibly start a fire.

i guess what Im wondering most is how do I make my own harness with a melted connector that needs to be replaced? Can i completely remove the connector and just land the wires in there? Doesnt sound totally safe...

or, are there generic connector pieces I could find, maybe one that has the same shape....? That sounds like a long shot..

I'd check out a junkyard for a replacement connector and get a new resistor pack. Note that the single unit actually has 3 coils inside it.

Was the connector melted when you replaced the resistor pack the first time? If not I'd be weary that the blower motor is going out and drawing too much current
