i put heated seats in my 98 xj
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Universal-Hea...ht_11897wt_906
are the ones i bought...i wanted the round switch....and the pads are the correct size for the seat...if you look there is a left to right seam in the middle of the seat bottom and seat back...under that seam is a stay...piece of metal that keeps the fabric taut
two types of seat heaters, ones that can be cut, others cant....the one i bought cant be cut, but fits even with that seam there
would i like the seat heater to be larger and cover more area, you bet...i probably will re do it next yr with larger seat heater pads.
otherwise its retardly simple...

a guy on another board installed them 1.5yrs ago....i waited a yr to see if there was a fire or not
year later, no fire, spent the $ on em.
i went for the model i went with cuz i wanted them in my miata, used the xj as a guinea pig....i kinda wanted to install the switch on the horizontal area of the center console, but the guts of the switch are pretty deep, and the ductwork is in the way, so i put it on the front of the console armrest...pics in a couple hrs (i took them to make a write up and never wrote it up, but on other laptop.

where i put the switch...i put seat heaters in drivers seat of my and my wifes xjs...we never have passengers and i drive if the both of us are in one xj....she wasnt too concerned aboot seat heaters anyways, but if i drive her xj, i want warm tush
the heaters need to fit like this, metal stays lay in those indentations and the fabric is pulled down thru the foam to keep it tight....so get the right size or get the type that can be cut for those stays get in the way

cloth seat is warmer than a leather seat in the cold, less of a need for car manufacturers to offer, also they make you spend extra to get the leather in order to get the heated seats.
but there are factory cloth heated seats out there.

I don't think they will not burn as long as they are wired correctly I'm tempted...

I would say its defiantly worth it. I go the full length carbon fiber ones that went all the way up my back. I havent installed it fully yet but just taped it to my seat but its 25 out here and i forgot to put on the heater i was so warm.
