yeah get some spray on adhesive and do it yourself...I did one on my dodge,Shadow..Very easy!! Look on You tube some guy does it..CHEROKEE might cost more ,because more area.I got a place here sells headliner by yard cheap....
It helps to install a heat/noise barrier directly to the underside of the roof prior to reinstalling the headliner. I used EZ Cool. The insulation keeps the cab a bit cooler and quieter. Now I can hear my driveline vibes better.
mines been doing the same thing, falling in random places but its still clean with no rips. i'm thinking either
a) tack it up myself with some spray adhesive
b) get a new fabric of my choosing and try to put that up
or
c) give up, rip everything down and spray a coat of bed liner on it

the roof gets hot without one. try touching that in the july heat. and frosty cold in the winter. not to mention the noise.
i just grabbed a really nice one from a 98 for my 90 at the wreckers for 10 bux. 15 minutes later, it was in and looks great. also grabbed the separate sound bar from it for another 20.

It does get hot for sure. I removed mine and also the carpet and BOY does it get HOT when ya slow moving on the trail!! I am on the side of if ya drive it, leave it in!
I was wheeling at Big Dogs in Gore, Va. in June and it was so dang hot in the XJ. I was about ready to jump out and run thru the woods screaming and crying like a little kid that just crapped his pants on the playground! It was one miserable ride!!

i had mine out for a while and it was pretty loud, and hot since it was during the summer, i ended up swapping a headliner from an 00 into my 96 and its way more heavily padded, and an intergrated sound bar. i highly recomend keeping the headliner if you intend on driving with the a/c on and still want to hear the radio.
but thats just my opinion
