Default Headliner alternative?

My foam headliner is really beat up. After I ripped the sagging headliner out I really got a glimpse of how chewed up the foam was. Laying fabric over it will not look good. I was thinking of trying to find some self adhesive hi density foam sheets to lay up there instead but I just wanted to see if anyone has done something like this before.

Go to a JY, and find a different headliner board. It would look better.

Jy = junkyard. So just go and find another xj headliner there, should fit.

tear out all of that old foam up there, i used a vacuum as i scraped it off.. and then just leave it as is, i haven't had anything up there in years and i rarely notice it, how often do you really look up?

also the interior side of the roof is painted the same color as the rest of the jeep, so if you like your color you might not mind just going around with just bare metal up there

Sounds like flooring tiles of some sort. Check out Lowes and Home Depot.

I recovered my headliner, and overhead console. With some i found on the internet. cost about $50.00, and an afternoon of work. But it looks like factory orginal. I'm happy with it.

I wouldn't be happy with the condensation build up during winter. Or the added road noise. In fact, I threw dynamat up under the headliner when I recovered it.

i do have annoying condensation build up this time of year, but it could be from the drain holes in the floor, or the fact that the doors never really seal right after going doorless.. i can't say the noise level went up any but i don't have any carpet anywhere either so my jeep is pretty uncivilized, no heat or ac either, but thats a different story.

but back to the op, sorry i didn't realize u were on of my buddies when i first responded your jeep is the kinda jeep that should have a headliner, 91limited is right the junk yard is probably your best bet for a replacement unless you want to spend a couple bucks and get one new, i know they have them for sale somewhere

yep. unless you want a sound bar too. (then look for one of them in the jy also) I didn't, I put 6x9's in the rear hatch instead. Hated the 5 1/4's speaker there anyways. (A overhead console is separate) JMO!

Its all good. I was going to hydroturf which is mat used on jetskis. It is molded in a diamond pattern and its nice but getting a big enough sheet would be expensive. I have been looking at mcmaster carrs website to see what they have.
