Default Has anyone had black wheels and the finish rub off?

Hey guys, I'm about to get my XJ repainted and wanted to put some aftermarket wheels on it. I like the MB Wheels TKO in black. I was just curious if anyone has had NON spray painted wheels and the finish rub off from wheeling. Thanks in advance. Heres a pic of the wheels.

Hopefully that worked.^

Well I have a friend with a 4x4 Dodge and he spray painted the wheels black, he got stuck in the mud and it pretty well ruined the finish. I'm just wondering if factory black coated wheels will lose the finish if I got stuck. I'm not gonna be on rocks, I'm in north Texas, just alot of thick clay and sand.

I have been running black wheels on my rigs for a decade I never had mud ruin the finish. However one of the wheels on my Xj does have the finish scraped off on the lip and a few spokes from grinding against a rock

The finish they use on those wheels is pretty durable.. And super easy to clean too my buddy has them on his dodge. but i would suggest going with a cheaper wagon wheel if your going to wheel it.. like a cragar.. then atleast you wont be upset if they get damaged because for another 45 bucks you can replace it.

Your buddies wheels paint got messed up bc any spray painted wheel churning mud ( Basically like churning sandpaper) is going to scratch thats all.

I agree. I'd never put aluminum wheels on anything I'm going to be wheeling either, aluminum wouldnt last with my wheeling.

But, the finish should be fine. Only damage to my wheels is from rocks, trees, my hi lift, pretty much everything but mud. Paint scraped off the edges, dents, scratches, stuff like that from offroad abuse. Mud hasnt effected the paint on my wheels at all. They're still shiny if I ever wash them.

Mud ruins everything. I respray my wheels black about once a year, only because I never prep them properly and road salt+pressure washer all winter takes the paint off.
