We had a Newer TJ in our group over memorial weekend in Moab. They snapped a rear shaft on 33's. I felt bad for them, they paid a shop to put the locker in, had no spare anything, and nothing to fix it. Basically no clue what was going on. I felt for them. My buddy put 35's on his XJ and snapped a shaft first trip out. Never ran a D35 again.

Of course the tree that hooked the tire didn't help either.

Well...."easy" is subjective. I would say you could get a much stronger axle. If you are easy on them, they don't fare badly. My dad has a 92 wrangler on 33s, and it has been locked for 16 years (ARB's installed 1994) and he is yet to break a shaft in his D35. He did some C-clip eliminators, but I think the shafts are still stock. On the other hand, he does take it pretty easy. We did the Moab Rim recently without incident, so it is not all dirt roads and flower fields

Anyway, D35s can handle regular use, but on a locked XJ, they will fail unless you are VERY easy on it. And none of us can do that

Hmm so I guess it would be worth it to pull the chry 8.25 outa my 97 and throw it in my 91.. Do they bolt up pretty easy or are the brackets different in any way?

Brackets are the same, u-bolts, plates and frive shaft are different.

And yes, I've seen a few d35 axles shafts snap as well as the spiders and carriers.
