Default Hardtop conversion

Hello everyone. I am new here. I just got a 1991 Cherokee and wanted to do a removable hard top on it like what you would see on an old 4runner. Does anyone have any tips to find something similar or a conversion that can be done?

I think you'd need some serious fabrication skills to pull that off. I've never seen any sort of kit though. This isn't quite the same but a pretty cool if you've never seen them.

Wouldn't you need to roll cage it? Pretty sure the unibody structure depends on the roof also.

Yeah the only XJ I've seen that on did have a roll cage but you'd also need one if you made a custom removable hard top.

Build thread from 2010. Some images are missing, but you get the idea. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/tw...hop-top-39343/

Targa concept from the 80s.

Freedom concept from the 90s.

This would be a project for sure. You could either make a full cage bumper to bumper or you could fully plate the frame. I don't mean aftermarket frame stiffeners, but fully plate with 3/16" steel completely welded together. Then you would need some good sheetmetal and body repair skills to do it. The results would be fun. But a ton of work

A sliding ragtop would be much much easier to install. Definitely not a convertible/topless result but it's also not an incredibly complex process.
