Default Grinding into 4 Lo

'98 Sport, part time 231, and I can't get into 4 Lo without grinding! I have had to shut the engine off, then it slips right in, re-start and everything is fine. I did just put in a SYE, everything seems to have gone fine with the install. What am I doing wrong?

Either move the lever faster or put it in park while still holding the brake pedal... Mine did the same until i learned to move faster... The ol Jeep has to keep you on your feet!! Also be sure to do so only in neutral if you are sitting still. I have heard of shifting while moving slowly but I will not do so

Yup, you have to be in neutral. Although mine is the 242, it'll grind if I forget to hit Neutral before shifting down.

You might need to adjust the shifter linkage. otherwise will in neutral, shift with 1 smooth quick jerk of the handle.

you need to be moving about 2 miles an hour put the shifter in neutral then shift the tcase to 4 low and it should go right in with little issue if not try stopping and putting it in park then shift it if that don't work you need to adjust the linkage

Thanks!!! I'll try it when I get home. I was probably going pulling it back too slow.
