Got a trade propsal for my XJ
Really on the fence here. I have an opportunity to trade my Cherokee for a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 gas, 4wd. I just bought a fixer upper house upstate and the truck will come in handy as heck. On the other hand my old lady and I have always wanted a black XJ and now we have one and are very happy with its performance. Would you put a tow package on the Jeep and use it for hauling wood, sheetrock and such or would you trade it? Mileage is 140k on the Ram, 129k on the Jeep.

Don't trade. I got the same kinda offer for my xj. It was a 2001 dodge 1500 lifted with about 33s on it pretty clean. Decided to keep the xj. Yeah a full size truck is nice but can't really take them wheeling

Im kinda leaning towards keepin the XJ. Im just a little weary of towing a trailer through catskill mountains with building materials. Im sure it can do it, its more about how easily it can do it.
If it was a diesel this post would say i just traded my jeep for a ram lol

Ya the jeep will do it. Your sig says you have a 4" lift. It should handle the weight of a trailer well. Gas mileage will be effected I'm sure, but a 5.9 would be worse I'd imagine.

I just got done remodeling our house it was a complete tear down inside. I used a single axle trailer and my jeep. I think my biggest load was 1.48 tons to the dump. It pulled it with no issues. We don't have huge mountains but we've got some pretty decent climbs in southwest mo. I can promise you will do just fine with the jeep.

No it didn't have breaks, I rarely had lights lol. The only problem I had was when I had the cement board on the trailer it was a little over 800 sq. ft. of durock and 12 bags of thinset. My steering got a little light. I blame it on the guys at lowes who loaded it lol.

If its as nice as your jeep then go for it. Those trucks are REALLY nice and are worth a nice chunk of change. Jeeps are super easy to find and XJ's ha there's even easier to find CHEEP. Good luck either way

Dont get a Ram unless you want a TIPM failure. All the second gen and up rams, including the 2012 models, are known for the fusebox going bad. Your driving down the road and no gauges work, lights may stop working, misc blinkers, just misc accessories. Happened to my brother, check the forums on them. lol. You have to have the dealer fix it because when they replace it they have to flash your computer and what not. Unless your savvy with electronics. My brother and I took his apart and replaced the burned line, brushed the lines with brass, and used dialectic grease. God knows why they wouldn't use dialectic grease from the factory..
