Is this a Jeep look like a good first car for a guy? I am about to be 16. I can do most work that needs to be done to it myself. I was thinking about lifting it. If anyone has any suggestions on lift, I'd like to know.

From what i can tell in the pic it looks great. Price? They are easy to work on, parts are generally cheap, there are tons of junkyard upgrades, and you can't find a more reliable vehicle. I got my '92 xj laredo as my first vehicle about 7 years ago and its still my dd. The first pic is just after i got it, the second is current.

I agree, I bought mine as my first car the day after I turned 16. 3 years later and I've had almost no problems. The only money i've put into it is $35 for a water pump. As long as you don't plan on driving like a dumb typical 16 year old, you'll be good. Also, I hope you've got money for gas

The guy im buying it from wants $1500 for it. I think thats a great price for it compared to what ive seen other places. What kind of lift is on your xj in the second picture. I am thinking about getting a lift but nothing crazy yet.

go for it...they are easy to work on...make sure the cooling system is in order and enjoy it...if you dont run it out of or low on oil and dont over heaheat it Xj s will deliver many miles of smiles,,,I am 50 years old and my first vehicle was (is as I still have it) a 1957 GMC pick up...straight six...easiest vehicle to work on and maintain...i got it when I was 14 and like i said still have it to this day

I've got a Rubicon Express 4.5" lift and 31" bfg's. Its been more hassle than i thought, and a 3" is a good bit cheaper. Although i originally wanted an 8" lift, then talked myself down to 6", then settled on 4.5" because of $. So if your not set on going a certain amount i would just go with a 3". Also, what year and miles?

I think it would look good enough till you got the 31"s.

I'm only 17 but my xj was my first car and I baby it, I love it. I was offered to have a 02' blazer and i couldn't even think of getting rid of my jeep for a blazer. Trust me as a teen also, its a great first car and will defiantly bring more fun then some honda civic that can't even take a speed bump

My dad and granddad had a general rule for first cars. Don't get anything new and shiny cause it is your first and when you're learning if it gets scratched or dented then its not too big of a deal cause you're learning plus it will teach you to fix it when things go wrong.

i just turned 16 last month and my parents got me my 96 cherokee. i love it and plan to keep it a long time. me and my dad are lifting it next week. gas mileage does suck but its not that bad for a dd to school.
