Is this a good CL buy?
Dana 30 front axle with 4.88 gears and Aussie locke from a 1998 Jeep Cherokee.
Dana 44 rear axle with 4.88 gears and a Detroit Electrac locking differential. The locker currently does not work. As is, it is a great limited slip rear end. I don't know what it will take to get it working. The axle is from a 1988 Jeep Cherokee.
$900 for both axles. I will not seperate.

doesn't sound too horrible, unless you can do gears yourself. i'd say the d30 alone is worth about $400... the d44 with lsd and 4.88s could probably sell for $500... does it have disc brakes?

No disks... That would be the kicker. This guy is holding firm at 900 for now. But this would pretty much complete my build so it's tempting to just drop the money.
I'm kinda a newb still, so thanks for the help! If I go look at them what should I look for? How do I tell if it's thrashed or if the axle tubes are straight?

What people arent mentioning is...
4.88 gears are meant for some BIG AZZ TIRES!
When you consider 4.56 gears are great for 33's and good for 35's ...So he probably had 37's or 39's
Running anything smaller and youre just gonna be chewin up gas for nothing.

how big of tires are you going to run? why dont u just look for a 97+ 8.25 swap that out for your d35, and drop the 900 u would spend on these, on lockers and proper gearing, (unless ur gonna run 38s+) buying something that isnt working and "might work" is kinda hard. if you rlly want these axles i wouldnt spend 900 on them. he is running that gearing with that big of a tire on them, without disc brakes? seems kinda strange to me. if you go look at them, tell him u want to open the diff cover to check out the gears, and maybe even see if he will let u pull the shafts out. point out all the flaws with them and tell him that to get the rear locker to work, could take alot more money. and say hey listen ill give u this much cash.. take it or leave it. and if he doesnt want it, then walk away and look for something better, also look at the brakes on both of them, if they need to be replaced/repalced soon, then thats another way to knock down the price.

I'm running 33's and figured this ratio would give me room to grow... but I will probably never go to huge tires. I was also going off this chart http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm.
I originally set out looking for a 29 spline 8.25 to swap out my d35, saw these and started doing research. I also understood that front and rear gear installs alone could reach 1k... I think I'll wait a week and see if he is still firm at 900.
Thanks for the help guys.
