It's right in line with market prices, but, if you go prepared you can negotiate a better price. I would check all suspensions and drivetrain components, cooling system, electrical and routine maintenance related things and I would want to see some receipts. Good luck!

Well, in that case I guess it's just a matter of whether you value the XJ over your GSXR. Let us know how it works out for you.

Seems about right to me if everything is in working order.

There is probably a very good reason why that ad is over a month old, caveat emptor.

It could just be the fact that it's a modified Jeep that is over $3000, which is going to appeal to a very limited market. I've been diligently monitoring the Craigslist sites within 300 miles (looking for a J10, but never hurts to watch for Cherokee deals, right?). I have noticed that the XJs in good shape under $2500 or so go pretty fast. The more you go above that, the longer it takes to sell them. People go to Craigslist looking for deals, so the deals are going to go faster.

And the more modified they are, the more wary people are about buying. Someone who is experienced with lifted XJs is more likely to want to handle his own build, while someone not experienced with XJs is going to be a little uncomfortable with what he's getting into for that kind of money when he can buy a "normal" one for so much less that's less likely to have weird surprises.

I have noticed several XJs around me in that same price range that have taken a long time to sell. There's one that the guy keeps shutting down and relisting to keep it from looking old. Looks like a great rig, but nobody wants it.

Caveat emptor should apply all the time, but I wouldn't make any assumptions about this rig based on how long the listing has been up.

Undoubtedly, but sometimes no matter what advice may be given some people are determined to make a particular purchase which reasons are rational only to them. And that's ok, they are free to do that. Thus, my advice to check it out very closely and negotiate it down. Never, ever pay someone what they are asking.

It's a good deal when you price out everything that has been done to it it's worth it if everything checks out. I would offer $4k if your trading your bike and no longer need or want the bike by all means I think it's a fair trade.

Lol! Yeah, 300 miles doesn't get you very far in Texas, but, there are a lot of hidden gems still out there though (barn finds, fields, etc.) I'll keep my eyes open for ya.

Honesty, I used to be very picky and careful at what I looked at but now I realize that any lifted xj is the same as the next. They will all have the same common problems eventually. Unless you are willing to buy a 100% stock xj and build it from the ground up you're going to run into problems. I did what a lot of people do. I figured if I bought something slightly lifted and in really good shape it would be a better deal than if I got one stock. I was wrong. I looked at probably 20+ different xjs before I pulled the trigger. Some had cooling problems, some make funny squeaks, some had a sloppy front end. Guess what, mine that I thought was perfect has all the same problems, they just developed over time. So in the end unless you build it your self, all lifted xjs are the same. If it's in your budget, if you like it, if it makes you happy, and if its not an obvious hack job, then buy it. Just leave out some cash to fix things here and there.
