Default Getting ready to sell my 87 XJ Limited in NY

Hi everybody! I believe I used to have a build up of this thing on wagoneers.com about 15 years ago. I don't use it, haven't used it in about 5 years (and that was down the driveway and back), and it was last on the road in 2010 only to use for one day. It was a daily driver up until 2008.

I really would like to know if anybody could help me determine what this thing is worth.

Dana44 rear 3.54 and ubolt yoke from Spicer
Dana30 front 3.54
NP242 AMC 272 ratio
AW4 trans and 4.0 renix
rusty's tie-rod conversion
rusty's frame strengthener and trac-bar brace
rubicon express control arm drops and supports
rubicon express rear shackles (6" maybe?)
rancho LCAs
some interior bits from a late 90s XJ

and my custom 8" subwoofer boxes (I made these!)

Thanks for anybody who can help. I've spent alot of time taking pictures and trying to remember what is in there. This forum has alot of information that has helped me remember this stuff.

On looks alone, id say 500-1000. It looks pretty beat, which most of us here in the northeast tend to avoid. I see vehicles like that sit, and sit, and sit. Post some pics of the underside, front and rear, as well as the rockers with vehicles in the condition shown. Engine bay and interior (not just the cargo area) are important to many as well, even if the rest has seen better days. It might help. It might not. Good luck.

While XJ-lovers are willing to spend more than ever on a good XJ these days in NY (because they are so hard to find). The demand for vehicles in a condition like the one you have pictured is very low. They usually sit on Craigslist indefinitely. Even in the sub $1k range.

Your biggest hope is that someone with a similar/compatible year takes an interest as a parts donor (though from the underside pictures, that is unlikely).

Thank you for the thoughts. The underside is not that great. I tore the interior apart in early 2004 to build up the stereo, and washed it with a garden hose. I riveted sheet metal around the holes in the floor.
I have thought about ripping all the upgrades out of the front and selling those and the rear end. I have pictures of the underside in my album

This is the driver's side underneath:

Not many XJs can be found around here that have an axle gap like this:

33x14.50 mickey thompsons on MT classic2 rims. I don't remember the offset but no spacers.

  1. No matter what condition the performance parts are in, or the condition the vehicle is in, you will NEVER get back what you put into performance parts. Not even close. Doesn't even matter what kind of vehicle. Ricer or roadster or off-roader, all the same.
  2. Custom parts that you made yourself and you are proud of... are almost always a liability, not an asset.
  3. That's pretty bad rust. It's not a primo car at all. That sheet metal you riveted in place probably made things worse.
  4. Sitting is one of the worst things for a vehicle. Haveing sat that long is far worse than if it had been driven 10,000 miles a year.
  5. Selling parts is tough work that doesn't pay well. I have been trying to part out my 94 for a couple of years now. I watch CL almost daily for Cherokee parts, and I see the same parts on there for a year or more.

I agree with the numbers suggested above - sub $1000, and don't waste your time trying to strip those 'valuable" parts. Just cut the price, move it out, and move on.

BlueRidgeMark,

Thank you. Jim's Garage in Copake, NY offered me $200 for this one. I told him about my two cherokees...the other one is an 89 with a '99 40k motor. I am going to pull the stereo and TV stuff out tomorrow and put it on craigslist.

I got right at $200 from the junkyard for the stripped hulk I sent them last year. My 94 That was minus the engine, trans, transfer case, and rear axle.

It paid for the tow truck that hauled it away. If he'll pick it up for you, you should really think about grabbing that stereo and letting him have it for the $200.

Thank you everybody for all your input. Is the dana44 not worth anything anymore?

I put this on Craigslist just a few minutes ago.
