Which To Get - 2016 Colorado WT 4x4 V6 or 2016 Cherokee 4x4 2.4L Sport
Looking to replace an aging 2007 Colorado LT Crew Cab 4x4 3.6L in need of a crap load of repairs and narrowed it down to another Colorado or a Cherokee. I should mention that I'm entitled to the GM employee discount and the GM dealership is also offering $1000 more for my trade-in than the Jeep dealer. So in the end, the price of the new Colorado will be slightly higher than the 4x4 Sport.
The reason I'm leaning towards the Cherokee is the better fuel economy, nicer interior but most important of all, the Auto 4x4. My 2007 Colorado does not have this and back in 2008 I flipped it after hitting a patch of black ice in 4x2 mode. At the time, all roads were dry so the truck was 4x2. Since the accident I've probably had the Colorado in 4x4 mode when it probably wasn't necessary which could explain why the CV joint is messed up.
Anyway, these are the 2 questions I hope folks here can answer for me.
1) Would the Jeep's Auto 4X4 prevent the accident I had?
2) Has Jeep worked out all the bugs that were plaguing the 9-speed transmission I've been reading about for the 2016 models?
Honestly it don't matter how many wheel drive you got when you hit black ice,I have hit it in a car and did a nice 360 thank god i hit nothing.Black ice just depends how fast your going and how fast you can re gain control. But ask your self do you need a truck or do you need a suv? When you work that out i would look at everything that fits my needs.I can't say for sure if the jeep kl is good or junk i have read a lot of things good and bad about them.
I sure see a lot of new Cherokees in my area, so someone is buying them.
Full time 4WD has probably kept my daughter out of several accidents in her Grand Cherokees. See seems to be accident-prone, so that's what I bought her.
She says she will never have anything without full-time 4WD again.
The new Cherokee is one of the worst rated small SUV's on the planet. Avoid it. The Colorado has been worse than average for reliability. Buy a full size Silverado. At least that will hold value.
The GM every time over the Fiat for sure! The Cherokee is one notch above the bottom position in repairs/reliability the bottom is Fiat that's from Consumer Reports.
I remember a car they rated many years ago a real POS the Yugo they were well documented of having break downs on test drives from the dealerships on new ones.
If you want a list of the problems our members have had with the KL cherokee you should try searching in the KL cherokee subforum. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f87/
Otherwise if you want a Jeep I would say go for the grand.
1) Would the Jeep's Auto 4X4 prevent the accident I had? Nope, the only thing that can prevent an accident is the driver, even then **** happens outside of our control.
2) Has Jeep worked out all the bugs that were plaguing the 9-speed transmission I've been reading about for the 2016 models? Unfortunately it seems that Jeep has not worked out the problems in the ZF-9 (debuted in the suv market in 2014 kl cherokees), Jeep contracted out for a transmission for an suv that was originally designed for cars, on top of that An entire production run of either crank or camshafts was made, for the 2015 model year, out of spec and kills the engine, the only fix being a new engine (TSB not a recall, has since been fixed).

had only 4x4 on or off
I work for a Jeep Dealership in New York and the 9 speed transmission is still an issue. I do my best to move people as far away from anything that has it as much as possible because if in the end they will come back and complain to me about it rather than the manufacturer, and also I dont want that on my conscience. I dont know much about the colorado, but remove that cherokee from your list of options, there are way too many of them breaking down on highways and being towed to our dealer for service.
Go with the Colorado. I've read some pretty decent reviews on it.
The saying about the new Cherokee 9 speed transmission is "It hunts more than Ted Nugent". After driving it, I agree. They have re-flashed this thing a few times and it isn't much better from what I've seen.
I was looking for a daily driver and I looked seriously at the Cherokee. I did not buy it.

As my username will indicate, it probably won't be a Toyota.

CRAP !!!
Found a sweet deal that I almost pulled the trigger on. 2016 4x4 Cherokee Sport V-6 for just $800 more than the 2.4L 4x4 Sport I had my eye on.
Thanks for the warning.
2007 Colorado I have was a lemon, most likely because it was totally redesigned with a new engine, new systems and new platform. Forgot the rule of thumb that buying a vehicle during it's first year of production was unwise and wait until most bugs are worked out.
The 2015 Colorado was also totally redesigned winning Car and Driver truck of the year. Won it again for 2016. Hopefully, they've worked out most of the bugs.
Didn't the 2016 Cherokee win 4x4 of the year somewhere?

You know car and driver are paid off right ?Like the honda ridgeline was truck of the year once. Its not a truck it has no frame and you can't pull a full sheet or drywall or plywood in the bed.
