Default Front Turn Signal

After adding my ebay clear corners and bumper lights, I've been getting some ideas. Looking at how the front turn indicators are directly below the headlights, I think it would be really cool to add some auxillary lighting in the clear housing.

I have a couple hyperwhite H4 bulbs laying around, some wire, and some terminal ends that would connect to the bulbs.

My plan would be to drill a second hole in the housing to place the headlight bulb next to the stock amber turn signal bulb and then wire it up to a switch.

Has anyone done this already? I think it would be a REALLY clean way to put more light on the road.

If there are any issues or problems I'll run into, please don't hesitate to let me know!

Update: I want to see pics if anyone is running this setup on their XJ!

Keep in mind that you're only allowed to have 4 driving lights running at one time (2 fogs & 2 headlights for example). Any more than that and your breaking the law - a nation wide one just so you're fully informed. Nothing kills this sport/hobby more than people breaking the law.

I've known of that law for a while. Right now I'm running
  • Xentec HID 6000k w/ projectors for my headlights
  • KC Hilites 26 series 55 watt off road lights (on the bumper)
  • Cheap Pilot Yellow Beam Fogs (under the bumper)
All three sets of lights are on seperate circuits. I usually run my headlights and foglights for night driving. I know that is the legal limit. What I plan on doing is getting rid of the fog lights and KCs in the future because they're pretty abused. I want to run the headlight bulbs inside of the bumper lens as my fog lights (if it is possible). I'm going to replace my off road lights at some point and start mounting them up on my baja basket for offroad use only. Basically I'll only have 4 lights on whenever I travel on a public roadway. I'm very good about not breaking the law noticing I'm only 16 and getting a ticket right now is not an option.

Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the laws. It sounds like it'd be a cool idea though. Either photoshop it or something to get a good idea and then see what it's take.

To get a good beam pattern you'd probably need to fab up some way of directing the spread. maybe something like an aluminum/stainless steel cone to go around the bulb so the beams are more focused?

Great thinking! I could maybe fab up some sort of a projector lens with a reflector to focus the beam. I've seen people make cutoff line shields out of pepsi cans so i'll probably use the same method. I have another question for you;
Do you think there would be a way to turn the lights off when I use my turn indicators? Maybe a relay or something?
