Default front brake dust shields

I was wondering what was involved in installing new front brake dust shields. I just did a front brake job and should have looked then because my shields are rusted and I had a slight scrapping noise before like a silencer was rubbing and I still have the noise Im pretty sure its a dust shield rubbing but not 100 percent so im gonna try to replace the shields. Any one done it? Thanks

If you can find them new most bolt on or are riveted,If you can change a rotor you can install them.

The front dust shields aren't really necessary. I usually remove them on everything I work on because they usually are falling apart anyway, and it keeps small rocks from getting caught between the shield and rotor.

the rotors are quite easy to change. take the wheel and caliper off and the rotor is off.

the dust shields are held on behind the bearing unit. three bolts and either pull the axle the whole way out and swap the dust shield or unbolt the axle and separate it from the bearing unit.

I removed mine because they were really rusty but I think in the future I may put them back on again just to keep mud and stuff off the rotor.

They aren't really necessary, but there is pros and cons either way.

I know they are there for a reason I was just curious if they were a pain in the butt or not.
