ive got an 86 xj with a dana 30 and was thinking about using washers on 4wd actuator so the fork will hold the collar engaged all the time, any of yall done this? any drawbacks? its my dd so thats why im a little hesitant also im not sure how it will feel? thanks in advance
Did the washer trick on my 91 and I have not had any issues with it at all. The worst part was prying the c-clips off of the shift fork shaft. They have a tendency to become airborn with great velocity with they pop off and disappear in mid air.
No change in steering. As far as mileage, my speedometer and odometer have never worked so I can not calculate my mileage. Plus mine is not a DD and has only been driven less than 4000 miles in the 3 years I have owned it. I estimate that I get around 15 to 16 MPG on 33s with stock 3.55 gears.
Ok, use a little common sense and logic. The diff rotates withe the axles as the tires rotate. You have 2 axle shafts on the front so having the pass side disconnected does not keep the diff from spinning. It still rotates with the drivers side axle shaft. It is no different than having a later model XJ with the 1 piece pass side shaft. I you don't believe me then have someone else drive the Jeep in the driveway while you watch the front driveshaft. It spins with the diff as the vehicle moves even in 2wd. The only time you are in 4wd is when you engage the tcase.
