Found a solid 96 Cherokee Sport, please tell me about this $ issue
Hey guys,
Got a few I'm lookin at but the specific one I'm interested in is giving me some trouble.. just because of the price, I don't know if this is some sort of supply and demand kind of deal or if this place thinks they can pull off a hot sale cause this things just so dang clean.
Here's the info, it's a 96 sport 6 cyl with a 5 speed. 170K miles and they're trying to sell it for 4800!
I'm thinking even from a dealership no more than 3000 if not lower, what do you guys think? obviously i'm not going to buy it unless they drop the price down at least 1500, i have other options, it's just that other than the miles, green/sport/5 speed is the combo i'm looking for.
Thanks all
**important note, i HAVE to go through a dealership, long story short i can only trade my car in, still owe money on it**

Yeah they want way to much money for a stock 96. I would bring in a nada stating what they say its worth retail. Not private sale. Then get them to go 2- 500 under that. If not walk away. They are tryin torip poeple off. Id say no more than 3500. And that's only because its a clean rig.

I picked up my 96 2 dr 5speed with 20k for $500 clean and straight body the only problem that was wrong with was the exhaust manifold has a crack in it but...the price for the one your looking at I would not even bother I seen them here in Santa Fe the most for a real nice clean one is around $2000 the most......But I do love that green color....and if you add the other 2 I have....I paid a total of $1000 for 3 jeeps

I bought my XJ for 6 grand, a 2000 Sport with 120k on the odometer. And I considered that a pretty good deal for this area. I searched Williamsport area, Bloomsburg, Poconos, etc etc... and everything was in worse shape for at least 7 grand... upwards of 9k. So I'd say jump on this, looks like a bargain.

Thats alot of miles for that year, but it looks really clean.
First mistake is you going to a dealer.
Only buy from a private party if you plan on getting one at that price.
It's not gonna happen at the dealer, they are their to make money because they are in business to make money and have bills to pay.
A private party will most likey be your best bet, if all the ones your looking at don't satisfy you then just wait and keep looking, you can also save some more money in that time and get something even better.

I paid $1900 for my '96 2-door, 5-speed 4WD with an almost perfect body and very good interior. College kid and his Dad were the first owners and didn't offroad it. I'm at just $2800 with tuneup parts, some junkyard trim, an Alpine head and new 235X75-15 GeoLanders...

Just at first glance, it looks like aftermarket rims, brush guard, possibly new fender flares (I'm not positive if 96s came in black), and a rarely seen deep green (possibly new paint). Super clean, but that'll wear off in a week. 5 speed, I assume that's manual, because automatics are only 3 and 4 speed. Looks like leather seats, if so, that's aftermarket for a sport. I also am assuming 4x4 or else what's the point (jk). A lot of pluses.
$4800 is very comparable to prices I've seen here in texas. However, you could find one much cheaper with patience.
It all comes down to what's it worth to you. In my opinion, I think paying $4800 for this Jeep is perfectly fine.

yea just checked NADA and they're calling clean retail on this thing $3225. 3500 sounds decent enough if this thing really is as clean as it is, but i'm still worried about the miles a bit.

Man, that's a Jeep 4.0. With that mileage, it's just now breaking in. In all seriousness, I bought my Heep with nearly 190K on the odometer. Im near 210k now, no issues. Runs better than the day I bought it. Give it good oil and love, and I've seen one guy with a stock 4.0 that had 600k+ miles on it. Don't let mileage be an issue unless it's been abused or has like 400k miles on it.
