Default Ford 8.8 with yukon axles and c clip eliminator?

What size tire would you guys feel safe running with this set up? 8.8 out of Explorer with disc and the kit in the link. It would have the tubes welded and run a spool or Elocker. Geared properly to the tire size chosen. Terrain would be everything, mud, rocks, mountain trails, sand, you name it. Street driving to.Vehicle is 95 XJ, 4.0, Auto trans. Not wanting to hear what to do with the front, just interested in this rear set up.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-YJ-TJ-Wrangler-Ford-Explorer-8-8-C-Clip-Eliminator-Kit-Chromoly-YA-WF88-31-/281023225174?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item416e4a1d56&vxp=mtr

No bigger than 39s if you're sticking with 5 bolt lug pattern. I'd be comfortable running 37s or 39s on that no problem.

A spool in a street car is not a good idea a selectable locker is what you really want.

I have had two Camaros, a V-8 Vega and a mustang with full spools. I know how they behave. Welded the first 8.25 in my xj also. I prefer a spool to automatic lockers. Lane changes in the snow and ice kind of suck. Yea, you get use to it but a spool is no problem. Now that being said I would prefer a Elocker but spools are really cheap. Looks like 37s are the tire of choice so far.

Just about every ricer you see out there these days has a spool in the back or a lincoln locker and you know damn well they don't leave pavement. If you know your vehicle and drive accordingly there's nothing wrong with a rear spool.

I run a welded rear and I have more issues with it off road than on. Side hills suck.
Fun part is now figuring out what front axle to run because there is no axle that came with the small 5 lug pattern that'll hold 37s.

I wouldn't call 5x5.5 big. Pretty standard for trucks and SUVs that aren't full size.

I think xjmarc was just saying good luck finding a strong enough front axle with the smaller 5x4.5 pattern. any axle worth a damn will be 5x5.5 or bigger. as in not matching the good ol' explorer 88

I guess it's a problem if you're too lazy to swap lug patterns or run adapters. I don't see the problem if you can swap axles you can take care of lug patterns.

unless he actually does get the c clip eliminator kit. the shafts come dual drilled for 5x5.5" or 5x4.5" i believe
