I'm planning on picking one of these up and having the rest of the exhaust built around it. What size do I go for? I have a 2000 sport.

2.25(in) is stock.

You could go 2.5(in) from the cat back if you want some extra power. If memory serves correct I think its 2.5(in) pre cat.

I just put a DynoMax SuperTurbo on mine with a turn down. I did not want it going over the axle. Sounds nice plus I like the funny looks I get when other drivers hear how mean my lil' old XJ sounds.

I went with 2.5", but an exhaust guy later told me that I didn't need more than 2.25" with a stock engine. I don't know if that is true or now.

Duals imo would be a waste of time. Its not an earth shaking v8 and so a single exit will give you the best sound and performance. Run 2.5" pipe and what ever tip you want.

I have both CAI and a TB, I went 2.5". Sounds great, using a DynoMax SuperTurbo muffler but brand is personal choice.

But in answer to your question, 2.5" is good for a stock displacement. CAI and TB only allow the engine to take in air easier. A quality exhaust will allow it to expel the gases faster. Which will increase power, but mainly give you a mpg improvement and better throttle response.

If your going to go through the trouble of changing the stock exhaust manifold/header get a higher end brand; i.e.: borla, banks, etc. One that is ceramic coated would be nice as well.

i ran a super 40 on my 4.7L dodge and it sounded sweet.

the exhaust shop i take/send all my business too told me 2.25 is what he would run on my XJ.
