Sounds nice, and yes some cats sound different than others.

cat makes a difference. And I only know by "accident"

short version of the story: Put in a super 44, guy found the cat was bad. Exhaust was louder, but not loud. Went back later, new cat went in and exhaust was LOUD.

long version:

Got a super 44 put on a 5.2 GC. When I picked it up, the muffler guy said the cat needed to be replaced. No time then so i came back a few days later.

It was definitely louder than what was probably the old stock muffler. But not that loud...in fact that was one of the reasons to get the d--- thing in the first place. I was borderline disappointed

So I go back later and get the new CA legal cat. I see the old one, the baffle totally rotted out and dropped free, and rattling around inside the cat body... And now the thing is so loud that I could see it getting annoying after a while....but so far it hasn't.

No difference in acceleration etc after new cat went in. In fact I had only had the thing a couple weeks and it passed smog with the broken cat

Also--- depending on what brand etc..... and if you want to get it done, or wait for parts... or get crazy with custom piping... I went in for the flowmaster Super 40, but the offset was wrong. So he gave me a super 44 for the same quoted price. I could have waited for a Magnaflow or had him chop up some pipes etc...but I didn't care that much, so just went with the 44 which had the proper offset and was ready to drop in on my 93 5.2 GC.

I don't know what the XJ set up is on your year...but obviously it is easy to just get down and look at it. Just make sure you know if its center in-center out, or center in-side out or side in-center out etc and you'll save time later figuring out what muffler you can put in.

Well, is it a good loud? Deep and aggressive throughout most the rpms atleast and will turn heads making people think ur xj sounds mean as ****? Lol bcz I'm ordering the 40 or the 44 in the next cpl days.. I've been asking around like crazy and can't make up my mind

I have the Super 40 with a Magnaflow cat and it turns heads when I'm on it, not so much during normal driving. The 40 is louder than the 44.

I like the sound of it so far, but videos never do the sound of an exhaust justice because of the auto-calibrating microphone.

How loud is it while driving? I would like a nice deep gurgle, but I don't want anything that's going to annoy the hell out of me while driving.

Sounds good.

I debated on the FM 40 and magnaflow for a few weeks. I choose MF with thunderbolt cat. (proformance curve)

I thought it was alill quite at first, maybe bc everything is new (<500 miles) but it starting to open up nicely, But most IMPORTANTLY no drone @ speed, thank GOD!
