Float dem gears
Okay hoping to find others that are doing or have tried the same on this forum, or people who can provide some actual insight.
My AX-15 has about 210k miles on it (339,000 KM) and has been poorly cared for. Based on how some people drive I'm not surprised... the fluid that came in it when I bought it at 310,000 KM smelled like GL-5 but ran like WD-40. Most of the synchros are screwed so I've been double clutching it for about the past year. Pretty comfortable with that, but my speedo sticks around 20-25 KM/H so the 1-2 is a bit rough.
I was slacking off at work and followed a link to a link to a link and watched a nice video on an Eaton Fuller 10-speed. After a pop on ze Goggle I figured tonight I'd give floating a try.
What an awesome feeling! Haven't done many floats but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it soon. A little chunking, but no grinding. ****, I've done more damage to it when double-clutching. Or uh trying to get into reverse without waiting for the counter shaft to stop.
So... who else floats their gears?
I'd also like to hear from anybody who's worked on synchronized transmissions like the AX-15 as to their opinion on the matter. It seems to me that the synchros won't see any considerable wear - based on how most people drive they'll probably see less wear if done right.

I float when Im bored or the clutch is dead. Iv driven it home about 5 times in the last year without the clutch haha some times in traffic, I made it from the south side of the strip to my house about 30 miles of stop and go without a clutch. Iv done it for years with all sorts of trannys. What fluid do you have in there now? Try Mobil one syn 10W30. cleaned my shifts up a bit.

Redline MT-90 actually. It's a lot better than the other fluids I tried before stumbling across it on the shelf at my local NAPA

I've had to do it in my Jeep when the clutch pedal broke. And most of the time I drive my Silverado. And any time I drive a big truck.
I usually dont float gears with a synchronized transmission unless I have to though.
