Default Flat black + OE color on hood...opinions.

Since I have the typical burnt up green (forest green pearl) chrysler paint on the hood and roof (sides are amazingly shiny actually...) I'm just messing around with it. Rattle can experiment time.

I've seen all black flat paint on the whole hood...looks good sometimes. I got pretty much all the sun burnt clear off of it with various rubbing compounds and "color back" type products and elbow grease and rags.

But I'm thinking of masking things off and doing both flat black and original green, just screwing around for now. But curious what people might think...

Black in the indentations on the hood... or black on the raised part of the hood.

Of course, I just might end up doing both eventually, because its cheap enough and I'm bored enough. And my masking skills probably suck enough that it won't be straight anyway.

Black on the indentations would give that wanna-be cowl look...black on the raised parts which would look more like racing stripes. Not that I'm going for the racer look. Although I did just clown some middle aged guy road who was raging in his X5 the other day. (nothing special about that, looking at youtube, plenty of X5 smackdowns by 5.2s there)

I say go for it. Paint the whole hood black

My xj is all black with blue hood lol. I think it's pretty badass if I have to say.

I say paint it completely black. I painted my hood, header panel, and cowl satin black, I think it looks pretty good.
I'm painting my roof satin black next, the rest is still the original maroon.

The roof is the worse overall...I'm thinking black for that. Or maybe even that plastic paint one of the usuals (Krylon or somebody) markets. But the it might look like a Honda Element...

On my green 97 XJ, the hood was bad enough with the clear peeling,

but now it looks worse. I have been cleaning, and repairing small stuff.

I cleaned the front rubber mats and left them on the hood for a couple of

days. After washing the Jeep today, I can see where I had laid the

rubber mats,,,duh

I have used truck bed spray liner from a spray can before. It has a

semi gloss finish, and has been very durable on my 38 Coupe running

boards. So I will try this on the hood..

I cant find a pic that shows it but I painted the quarters and the center of the hood and sides where the body lines were different with bed-liner. I like how it turned out. I used a couple cans of Chrysler green and some clear coat to clean up the rest of hood.

I wish I could remember the spray bed liner I used before because it was lousy. Sprayed it on one of those hitch mounted bumper steps and it just came right off on its own. Whatever it was, it was from Walmart...so maybe next time I'd use a can and roller.

Also undercoating spray didn't last long, but then again I wasn't about to crawl up into the wheel wells and scrub it....so probably didn't clean it enough.

Hell with what people who don't like it think. I did mine 2 years ago with a couple hours of time a belt sander and some flat rust-oleum spray paint. it has got me several jobs and quite a few compliments. also a couple dirty stares but who really cares.
