Post Fishing Rod Holder

I recently designed a fishing rod rack for a single rod the would bolt on using the single screw already at the top of the rear light housing. The rack has a single custom molded fishing rod holder bolted to flat steel with stainless steel hardware. Today I mocked up a prototype, but tomorrow will weld up and hopefully paint it all! Here's my original design...I decided to eliminate the wooden mounting block, and go with steel.

How long is your fishing pole? Do you worry about hitting tree branches with it? That's why I keep mine along the interior trim.

It's pretty much for driving on those wide open beaches and for when you park and cast. You have a good point with the trees though.
