Default First thing to do?

Well, I just bought my first vehicle yesterday, a 99 XJ for $4,000. The guy I bought it from never used it much and only put on 18k miles since 04. All the fluids look clean, and he kept it in pretty good condition. My question is what maintenance should I do right away other than spark plugs/wires? Also, speaking of spark plugs which ones would you guys suggest? I know some brands don't run well with certain XJ's so i'm hesitant to buy any before consulting.

But other than that, what would you recommend doing that is pretty cheap? ie around $100 or so.

Thanks in advance.

Change all fluids.

Check all suspension components and bushings.

Manual or auto trans? If auto, use caution with fluid change...

x2 also check the air filter.

Also, what brand oil filter is on it?

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations on your '99!

Do a couple searches on here, these questions come up a lot and there are a few to-do lists kicking around. The actual on-site search function is useless, toss "site:cherokeeforum.com" into a Google search and you'll get much better results.

In general,

- Change all fluids
- Change all filters
- Grease all fittings
- Check all the brakes
- Check all the bulbs
- Do a complete tuneup

Just the coppers. NGK ZFR5N. Don't forget wires, distributor cap *with brass contacts*, and distributor rotor. Apparently NAPA's Premium line covers all of those bases.
