Default fiberglass rear fenderwells

Id like to appologize before hand as this is not a build but a serious question. Any mods, feel free to move this to correct area if you feel needed to.

So, i have no access to a welder or sheetmetal in order to tub out rear fenders how most people do, but my dad has taught me how to work with fiberglass and i feel i could easily tub out rear wheel wells using fiberglass. My question is, would the body flex of an xj easily crack fiberglass or produce spider webbing from flex?

I would be using as much stock fender as i can. Im not trying to build an entire fender out of fiberglass if i can help it but if it has to be done ill do it.

What are you guys thoughts on this? Good idea or bad?

Are we talking the inside fender well or are we talking like a bigger fender flare? If its inside the fenders like a rust repair it won't last but a few years before it pops loose. If we are talking a fender flare if you make it removable and bolt or rivet it on it should be ok like that.

If your taking inside like a mini tub i would think hard not to do it.I have seen fiberglass fenders on a 50s chevy truck spider crack from the inside from rocks kicked up in it.

What's the point? Why not just use some good undercoating in there?

You mean cut out the metal and put fiberglass in? No bueno, that's structural. Leave intact or weld new metal in only.

Okay, was just a thought. I need to find a doner vehicle to swap in inner fenders from so i can tub out my rear fenders. Ill be putting 35s on my 3.5 lift. And ill have an exo so the weight of it and cargo would bring it down to 3. Ima need some room back there. Lol low cog ftw!

You can buy some premade and cut them down to fit http://www.avsontheweb.com/product.p...cat=291&page=1 Or run a little bit taller shackle in the back to make up for the spring sag from the weight.

Think ill end up using metal but instead of welding ill use rivets. Like HD big rivets. Thoughts on this?

Well they use em for planes and boats... for a good seal I'd do some panel adhesive in there too before riveting.

Not sure what the name of it is, it's a 3M automotive product sometimes used in place of welds.
