Question Is this fair? 00 XJ 4x4 4.0

Going to take a 2 hour drive to look at this tomorrow. Am having potential buyers remorse already tho...
Unaware of what maintenance has been done. It is through a private dealer who got it at an auction.
117,000 miles
4x4
4.0
AUTO
$4982

Interior looks very clean but saw a little rust an discoloration on the inside of the doors.

If you can knock about $1K off, it'll be more fair.
They get cars for next to nothing at those auctions (my cousin went to the public ones for months trying to find a clean lifted Ford, and my uncle worked for a company that ran the dealer-only ones -- I'd know)... He probably paid about $1K for it, so don't be afraid to be aggressive with your negotiating.

Alright thanks for your input. I was very confident in the price but now 3 hours before i would hit the road to purchase it, having anxiety about the price.

Low pinion front d-30, but you can fix that, White is good, and hard to find, well not in sports, but mine is a classic. I wanted a limited in white, could not find one, and I paid more than that, here in So-Cal they sell for more it seems, well, like everything else (gas?)

Well i can fathom paying that much for a jeep that has never seen a winter! This one has only been up north and is starting to get a little bit of body rust on the inside of the doors.

I got him to lower the price tho. Still not at 4000 out the door as i'd like to pay.

I would worry about mechanical condition long before we get to a price. If you don't know what to look for pay a trusted certified mechanic $100 to look it over for you. Although even that's no guarantee you won't end up with an expensive lawn ornament.

Oh yeah, i'll beat on it a little for the test drive. Anything essential to check specifically in regard to these Cherokees?

Rust.
Death wobble.
Not well maintained... Like black oil or burnt tranny fluid.

Discoloration on the doors, I know most off us have been in water, but with all the recent storms I would check for water in places that may have sat in water longer than it should have.

Looks like it was well taken care of, and that chrome grille is pretty nice .

Probably worth it, if everything works good on it and there aren't any problems.
