Default Is This a Factory Tow PKG Receiver?

The title says it all. I picked this up at a JY last week. They had to pull it for me and I didn't see how it attached. Is there a nut strip or something that is supposed to be in the frame for this to bolt to? If so, I guess I'll be heading back over tomorrow to get it.

If it is from a factory tow pkg, what else should I look for on this jeep? It's an 89.

Thanks,
Aaron

If that is a factory receiver from an 89, then I would go back and see if that XJ had the D44 rear axle. The D44 was used 87-89 with the factory tow package. If was bolted in with a nutstrip then you might as well go to the dealer and buy some new ones. When they are installed the have to be wedged into the frame rail and become lodged in there for good. I spent way to much time trying tp pull some out at a local jy with absolutely no luck.

yup, looks exactly like the one off my 90.
however, yours may not have the center mount.
yes, you may need at least the nutsert for the drivers side. you should already have one on the passenger side to bolt up your tailpipe.

i have used bolts with large washers because my nutstrips were in bad shape.

Yeah its a factory hitch. You might already have nut strips in your rig or at least the passenger side. Easy way to find out is to remove your bumper and look into the frame rails, if there you will see them. bumper has to come of to instal anyway. If not there go get the from JY or dealer.

I've got to go there tomorrow to get a new hood release cable anyway. I pulled the handle off of mine today. I'll see if I can see what rear its got. There are several XJ's from the late 80's there, and even one MJ. I think I'm gonna have to get a storage building for all the parts.....if I can get them cheap enough.

Yes that is an OEM hitch. It looks exactly like the hitch my son and I just removed from his 88 XJ parts Jeep....and that one was a Laredo model with the factory tow package but, it had a D35 rear. I thought that a little odd but, it's a D35 allright.

Well, no luck on the D44 it had the 35. This was a nice jeep at one time, it's sad to see it rot. Oh well, mine will be better off because of it! I would get more parts off of it, but they won't let me pull anything myself and told me the nut strips weren't worth their time to pull. So, screw'em I'm going to find me a good ole country JY to deal with where I can use a sawzall if I have to.

Make your own nut-strips. Here's a diagram. attachment.php (JPEG Image, 700x460 pixels)
