Inside. Atleast here in the PNW the exo would be caught on trees and rocks.

It's a personal preference thing. I personally wouldn't put an interior cage in mine just because it's too tight in there as is. If you DD it a lot I wouldn't do an exo, they aren't illegal but you take the chance of harrassament because there is a fine line on what is legal, like windshield bars and such.

Both types..if done right, will offer the same amount of occupant protection.

Weigh the pros and cons of both types.

Inside cages..keep a narrow body line, more stuff to bang your head on, more places to tie stuff to, less chance of corrosion, can reduce interior space up to 25% depending on how many tie ins/cross braces.

exo...looks cool..lol, no loss of interier(but should have some internal cross braces)easier to build/weld, overall profile gets bigger, reduced chances of body damage in a mild flop...ect.

MOD........MOVE TO CHAT PLEASE?
All i can think of for now, hopes this helps.

My take on a exo cage is it adds the same prtoection as a inner ( crash wise) but with a inner you will still damage ur body pannels, and possibly have breaking glass. Adleast with a exo it will reduce the possibilty of glass breakage.

I personally like internal cages better, much easier to mount harness bars and seat mounts. But like said above if done correctly they are both just as safe

I dont see them really being the same. Exo, you roll your jeep. No big deal, get Dr upright and on you go. Interior cage, your day and possibly your jeep are ruined! Glass, roof, hatch, hood, fenders. Possibly all ruined.

Wheeling style should play a factor in what you choose also. Are you the guy that will put your rig into situations where it may roll? If you stick to the easy area of the trails and never take the hard lines just to show what your jeep can do, then I would say an Exo isn't really for you. But if it was ME and I was ever wheeling with kids in the car it would be combo Exo with interior bars for belts and seats and such.

Do the exo or just do both.im thinking of building one for my xj .its going to cost me like 250 dollars .not bad compared to a bill for new panels after u roll it .but if it's safety ...just do both better safe than sorry
