Default Exhaust

My choices are cherrybomb, flomaster 40, or magnaflow. Feedback?

I have a Magnaflow SS, welded muffler on the '96 Sport and it is straight through with a louvered core. You could literally look in the linlet and out the outlet. Loud? Not with an OEM type tailpipe exiting out the back. The louvered core is packed with SS wool and knocks the harsh, high frequency sound off.

The '96 SE had Borla (so I'm told) exhaust, and its all welded. Likewise, it has the full length taiplipe out the back, and it has a pleasant tone without droning or being obnoxious.

What cherrybomb? or Thrush? turbo? glasspack?

I really don't think its going to be loud if you use a full length tailpipe.

Flowmaster 40 series, or better yet the 10 series.

In my experience on 3 XJs and 1 WJ, you're not going to get that classic Flowmaster rumble unless you go to a 2.5" catback. When we kept the stock pipe on these, it just hummed as opposed to rumbled.

I have the xj exhaust package from rustyoffroad.com for $150. You get the choice of the cherrybomb pro, flowmaster 40 or 50 series. I got the cherrybomb because it wasn't as loud as the 40 series but still offers good deep sound. Overall I like it, it doesn't drone and was cheap compared to other package offers online. If you have a 2.5 liter I would not recommend it, it sounds really ricer but if you have the 4.0 it sounds good.

I thought the cherrybomb made a somewhat hollow sound? Or is it just because you got the performance pack that it sound good

I don't have the performance pack but I do have a cold air intake so that might be the difference in sound. My brother has one on his 2.5 liter yj it sounds hollow and ricer but with the 4.0 you don't hear any of that. If you search rustys offroad xj on YouTube there is an xj on there with the exact setup.

Yes there is a difference. Do you want a really loud throaty exhaust or do you want something not that loud but has good sound?
