Default Engine Dust Cover

Hey Guys so i just put a new JCR offroad bumper on the jeep. That dust cover under the engine hangs down some and is ugly so i took it off. How necessary is this thing? Obviously it gives you some more protection but for those of you who dont have it have you ran into any problems while wheeling?

It's just there as a splash guard. I haven't had one in many years. I really got tired of it any time I tried to work on the bottom end.

It's rare that I even see a stock XJ in my area that still has it. Mine was coming apart when I got my jeep, so out it came.
