Default Engine

I have a 2000 cherokee. The engine over heated last winter and cracked the head. To make a long story short the mechanic put the wrong head on and screwed the whole motor an charged me $3200. I want to keep my jeep so should i just buy a rebuilt engine and drop that in?

how did he put a wrong head on it and screw the motor? If I were to do a head on a 2000, there's no way I'd put a 2000 head on it. 00-01 had the 0331 casting heads that were prone to cracking. I'd have looked for a head off a 97 or 98. The only problem there is that there's no bosses for the coil packs to screw into.

I'd look into getting your money back from the "mechanic" first and foremost before I worried about anything else.

+1

You could have done an aluminum racing head for that much!

Get your money back, or at least a sizable refund… thinking 90% would sound fair.

move the coil pack to another cylinder and see if the misfire moves with it. Run a compression check on cylinder 5 as well.

Make some sort of bracket to hold down the coils, maybe they're losing connection from vibration. Might also want to check those coils to be sure they're working like they should.
