Ran into multiple broken bolts when installing my lift. Now I have to do some cutting to get those bolts out. How hard is it to drop the gas tank. Any tips to make it a pretty simple and trouble free drop? Thanks

Make sure the tank is Atleast 1/4 full of gas, any more and it's a pain in the ***. Remember the more gas the heavier. The bolts are 9/16 I believe and there's 2 holding on the straps that hold on the tank. Before that go under the driver side rear quarter panel and remove the skid that protects the gas tank filler tubes. Undo the clamps that hold on those and pull them off. Drop the tank slowly with a transmission/bike jack. Don't forget the vent tubes, and electrical plug that connects behind your axle, disconnect those also before dropping it. Make sure to Atleast have a second person with you if you've never done it before, it gets hard aligning the tank back in especially If you have a decent size lift.

Big big big tip. PB blaster is your friend and will make everything a snap

Which bolts did you break? You may not have to remove the tank to fix them..

 

Bolts to the leafs and also if I'm not mistaking the shock mounts. I'm fairly new to the process and working on things so sorry if I use the wrong terms.

 

Do a google search by typing in "site:cherokeeforum.com rear leaf bolts" or broken shock bolts, and you'll find a bunch of write-ups on how to deal with the problem. I don't believe any of them require dropping the tank!
