Default drills and such

trying to get a drill to take off the axle nut. best brand and 1/2 in drive i cnt find one to fit my socket help plz

A drill will not work, even a decent impact may not work. What you need is a 24" breaker bar that costs $20. If the socket you have is for 3/4 drive than you can get an adapter, 3/4" to 1/2".
Torque spec is 175 foot pounds for axle nut on the Dana 30 front axle.

breaker bar and also a three foot length 1" diam steel plumbing pipe. Slip that pipe over the end of the breaker bar and you've got an extra two and half feet of physical leverage. MUCH easier to break that nut loose

Get a good 1/2" electric impact. I have a milwaukee brand and it'll pop the axle nuts off no issues.

Harbor Freight 1/2" drive breaker bar with the top half of your jack handle over the end. That's been my go-to for every stubborn fastener I've encountered on the Jeep.

Make sure to torque that properly when going back on because it sets the bearing preload. Again, 175 ft-lb.

agreed... my Milwaukee fuel impact pulled them off with eas.

That's about $300 out of pocket compared to a breaker bar.

Breaker bar, 4 foot cheater pipe, and Reverse or Forward on the trans depending on what side. lol

If this doesn't break it you need a torch.

I have to be honest and share that I always have a 1" drive impact at my disposal all the time... Just have to double check direction before "tapping" the trigger or It will rip threads.

I also understand very few have this. But if you get a stubborn one go to the nearest place that does commercial truck tires and have them "break" them for you with a 1" drive and then snug them back up by hand to get home and finish what you started. They will come back off pretty easy after.

I actually agree. I could use one also. Every new house or house we elevate to place on taller pilings has at least 50 bolts that attach house to pilings. They are 14" long 5/8" diameter. So I have to carry up a ladder or walkboards a big drill and an electric impact with power cords in the way. A cordless impact would be great!

I also have a 1/2" Milwaukee impact, and it's hands down one of my best tool purchases ever. That thing is the business, and it's gone head to head with both Snap On and Matco models at work, and blew them both out of the water.

Edit: So much so, the owners of other said impacts went and bought the Milwaukee after being shown up, lol

Once you get to a certain age... even not that... you'll find that working smarter is so much more efficient than working harder. And my 1/2" impact has made things so much simpler and easier to work on.

i am as well...but i would rather save tons of time with an impact over a breaker bar and ratchet. Time is money lol
