It is illegal to ride doorless in VA. I've asked several different cops and they have all told me it is illegal to drive with them doorless. You must have tube doors and a mirror. Some cops have even told me a net works as well. Apparently you can get a hefty fine and then have to come to the police station to pay it and show them you put the doors back on.
They said that most of the time they see them parked an cannot ticket a doorless vehicle if it is parked. I've still seen a couple people doorless, but a couple cops told me that they will really only pull you over if your on a main road or highway.
But hey that's what they told me...still haven't looked in a book of VA law or whatever
One of my friends had a rock fly in and crack his head. He had to get 30 stitches for it. He said he was just driving down the street behind another car and it picked up and hit him. Lucky for him it couldve been worse. I've personally never done it before just cause I don't need to. If something were to happen to you and it was cause you didnt listen to your dad...think how he would feel. But hey, every man to his own.

Just an opinion.
Do not ask a police officer what the law says. There are many documented cases of LEO's enforcing a law that is actually not a law. If you want to know the legality of something look up your state code. Keep in mind that the state code is open to interpretation as well.
Here's one part of the PA vehicle code.
As you can see, the sections on doors is all up to interpretation.
The doors are original equipment, but also manufactured to be removed resulting in no side.
You can always print a copy of the state code to show the LEO that he is wrong if you are stopped. Usually at that point he will pick your vehicle apart and find other things that are a violation. Tact is usually key in these situations.
If your dad doesnt want you to go doorless you shouldnt. You ever heard the phrase "dont rock the boat?". You live in his house and he pays for your stuff. Listen to dad and in a few years when you can afford to live on your own and buy your own toys then you can do what you want and park where you want.
Good luck.

§ 175.77. Body.
(a) Condition of body. All items on the body shall be in safe operating condition as described in § 175.80 (relating to inspection procedure).
(b) Fenders. The wheels of a vehicle specified under this subchapter shall be equipped with fenders of a type used as original equipment. A tire may not come in contact with the body, fenders or chassis of the vehicle.
(c) Hood and hood latches. The entire motor compartment of a vehicle specified under this subchapter shall be covered by a hood. The hood shall be equipped with a double latch system to hold it in the closed position if the hood was originally so equipped.
(d) Protruding objects. There may be no torn metal, glass or other loose or dislocated parts protruding from the body of the vehicle.
(e) Fender flares. A vehicle may be equipped with fender flares not to exceed 3 inches.
(f) Doors. A vehicle specified under this subchapter shall be equipped with doors of a type used as original equipment. The doors shall open and close securely unless the vehicle has been manufactured or modified to the extent that there is no roof or side. Tailgates, except on vehicles where the tailgate gives access to the passenger compartment, may be replaced with wood planking, nets or other material that will prevent loss of load. Tailgates may be removed when optional equipment, for example a truck camper, is added.

Like I said...I didn't read the law book or anything that says it's written in stone.
Having it at the beach sounds like it would be alot of fun, and cops don't give a crap what goes on there. I've ridden around with my friend with his doors off and cops have passed and waved!!! I guess it really just depends which ones are dbags about it.
Tube doors are a good alternative though, they look good and keep ya inside. But watch out for the pricey ones.

Yeah? I have had several police officers tell me both. So I asked for the statute number and did my research. Turns out I'm legal.
And I call BS on your friend's story. 30 stitches and he was driving a vehicle with a windshield? Riiiiight....
I been doorless for a couple months and I wave to cops all the time it's completely legal here. And I wheel and drive the highways like that too. It's reall no different than a wrongler with no doors except safer in my opinion.

I see no way for anything to be thrown at you going doorless unless your sticking your head out, which is ignorant anyways. And at that point the only thing thats gonna hit you is probably a rock from your own tire.

Guys guys before you start flaming me, I said that is what COPS told me. I said I did NOT look within the law books or codes and stuff.
Cops don't always know the law, I know, I am just saying what they have told me.
Today I called the little court office in fairfax to see if I could talk to a judge. Well he fed me a bunch of mumbo jumbo about how it is unsafe and shouldn't be done. I asked if he could just specify wether or not it is legal. He told me to read this code...and then he told me to read the rest and determine it for myself???
friggin judge...

I really don't understand how this says it's illegal or not. But I guess next stop is to find a lawyer.
