Default Doorless question 98

Would it be just the same to remove the 6 torx bolts that go from the hinges to the door then mod the hinge? or would that be a stupid idea and I'd never get it aligned again.

Just mark the location of the hinge before you remove it, trace it with a sharpie or something. I unbolted mine to cut them so I could weld a bolt to the top and be able to just drop the doors into the first hinge hole.

I had the same problem, I actually went out and bought a 3/8th breaker bar that just barely fit. Even then one of the torx bolts was so stuck it sheared my torx bit
Ended up just leaving the hinge on that door and cutting the pin. Its much easier to do so with the hinge unbolted but you can do it with a dremel while its still attached. Read up as much as you can, I found the best way to go doorless was to mod the hinges like I explained earlier but if you don't have a welder its out of the question.

I wish I had a dremel. I guess I'll figure something out for the hinges.
Glad I have access to a welder though. I'd rather go that route than with quick pins

I have a 2000 cherokee sport. I cut my hinges with a dremel and about 14 cut off wheels. I replaced the hinges with 5/16 bolts. I broke the clips off of all the plugs to make them go in and out easier. Now I can remove both doors in about 5 minutes and replace in the same amount of time. You get used to lifting the door a little bit do to the sag. It is worth it to be able to go doorless that fast.

You can cut the bottom part of each hinge, yes. Would help to weld some kind of gusset to deal with the extra stress though.

Hardest part was lining them back up. Took me about 20 minutes with a floor jack and a block of wood

An easier way is to just line them up while the door is on the ground, hinge facing up. Hold the shim and hinge in the place you marked while you tighten the bolts down.
