Im a tight wad and a broke college kid with a stick welder and hopes and dreaks for a safari Jeep. with that being said, i want to build gutter mounts for my xj. ive got the frame for the rack about half done and want it mounted this weekend. i DO NOT have a bender but i DO have some 3/8x5 steel flat bar, a drill press, and a chop saw. any advice or pics/ diagrams would be greatly appreciated!

From what i understand you need to make gutter mounts for your safari rack. I cant be of too much help, being a broke college guy myself, but ive read that you can get gutter mounts that should fit off of van ladders and and racks at a junkyard. Might be worth a check.

like in the 3rd picture i think, the simplest one, how do nuts hold up when you weld them onto plate steel? i dont want to build them and then break as soon as i slam the door or hit a pot hole?

this is the most effective gutter mount i've seen yet. it is adjustable and tightens with the most force.

it is quite easy to replicate, we've done it for a friends rack that we built.

i have the warrior products rack, we just copied my mounts.

I picked up mine from 4 wheel parts for around $50. Also look on eBay sure you could find gutter mounts there
