Ever since i owned my xj it has had this starting issue where if i go out on a cold start and i crank it it will not start i could sit there and hold the key and it will just spin the motor and do nothing .. once i stop and then restart it it fires right up and miss fires for a second and then runs perfect any ideas?

 

Mine did that. There is a check valve in the fuel pump that can cause that. I replaced my pump and the problem went away.

 

really!! well what did that pump cost ya?

 

also did yours misfire when it finally did start?

 

They're not bad. $75 or so. Maybe less. When you change it make sure you get a new sock for the pump and change the filter too then all of your bases will be covered!

back when mine had a 4.0 it use to take a while to start, not long but longer than other vehicles, then the computer got a little soggey and the 4.0 went bye bye
