Default Do I NEED a headliner?

Bit of a random one.

Was replacing the droopy headliner a few weeks back, and the board got all torn up during the removal. Right now, no headliner board installed and it's great for the headroom (I'm 6'1-ish), but I'm looking ahead to the hot summer months and even further to winter when the lack of the board might be detrimental.

Should I just leave it as-is and suffer the lack of insulation, or is it probably better to see if I can score a Junkyard headliner?

Mine's been without one for more years than I can remember (7-8 maybe?). If it ever made a difference I can't tell. Yea the roof gets hot to the touch in the summer but cools quickly with the a/c on. Gets cold to the touch in the winter but warms quickly with the heat on. NEVER have seen condensation. My '96 had no board for the headliner. Only a foam pad that fell apart with the fabric attached was it.

I haven't had a headliner for a number of years. Insulation never was an issue for me - noise has been though. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't have removed it. I may try to throw some sound deadening up and maybe some vinyl.

Is most of the noise from exterior factors (weather, traffic, etc?) or the roof braces rattling around? The latter probably could be easily rectified with some foam strips above the braces, surely?
